Responsibilities of the Head of Theatre Production, Design, and Management
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Programs and Coronado High School Administration, the Head of Theatre Production, Design, and Management will advance the mission of the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) to identify and teach Coronado and San Diego’s artistically talented high school students through pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Teaching:
- Develop and instruct a curriculum in accordance with state and national standards, utilizing California Curriculum Standards and the school's curriculum adopted by the Coronado Unified School District School Board.
- Organizes and implements an instructional program that supports student success in accordance with the Mission of the Coronado School of the Arts, including development of appropriate differentiated instruction strategies within Technical Theatre to meet the needs of the school's student population.
- Participates in faculty and departmental meetings, production meetings and other events that promote excellence and growth in the department and arts conservatory high school.
- Participates in the audition/admissions review process and demonstrates interest and engagement in student performances and other school-wide activities.
- Demonstrates excellence in one's own artistic and academic pursuits. Represents Coronado School of the Arts and the department through active involvement in professional organizations.
Responsibilities In Addition To Teaching :
- The Head of Theatre Production, Design, and Management is responsible for the operational aspects of production and for the technical preparation and execution of CoSA supported events with knowledge and experience in various carpentry, lighting, sound, video (capture and streaming), properties, crafting, rigging, and other technical theater practices.
- Assist in leading and supervising the load-in, operation, maintenance, and strike of production elements. Supports production preparation as required: reviewing and translating designs and plans for staff and crews to implement under their guidance and collaborating closely with designers and faculty to ensure seamless integration of creative and educational objectives. The Head of Theatre Production, Design, and Management makes regular recommendations to the Director of Special Programs on staffing and budget needs within CoSA.
- Responsible for evaluating, planning, scheduling, performing, and or directing the housekeeping, repair, and service of CoSA performance venues and equipment.
- Regularly schedule and update the day-to-day production calendar and coordinate with coworkers and student employees to ensure smooth scheduling and operational efficiency. In addition, they must regularly mentor and supervise students.
- Expected to perform with a high degree of professional initiative, judgment, and discretion with a focus on safety.
